How can we turn a situation round in any moment? In 10 seconds we can shut out the stress and choose to let it go and not be of it. We can release our tension and let the breath carry it away. The breath is a powerful tool in yoga and brings in the powerful life force. Do you breathe shallowly and quickly grasping for air but never fully oxygenating your body or hold your breath and not take in enough that way. How often do you bring in long slow relaxed breaths. Do you ever fill your lungs to capacity and let them empty fully before you draw another breath?
When I focus on what my body is doing I usually notice that i'm holding my breath and my thoughts and feelings hang heavy with it. When i'm trying to get somewhere on time and a car cuts me off in traffic or an argument starts near me I hold my breath in and tense up. In the moment I realise that i'm holding my breath and let go letting my breath flow I choose not to be a part of that outside influence and come back into myself knowing I don't need to react and don't need to be bothered by other things. I am me and not the sum of my environment. I close my eyes if I can and take a deep breath down into my chest then abdomen and then release waiting till I feel empty again before I draw another slow breath. I focus inward making my out breaths the same length as my in breaths. With my breath I take in life and energy and with the flow I release what I don't need and any thoughts or emotions that aren't mine or aren't serving me.
Take a moment notice your breath without changing it. What does it tell you about how you are? Are you stressed or busy with outside thoughts maybe your not in the moment or trully in yourself. Feel yourself and draw in that breath feeling it travel all the way to your navel. Breath out fully let the breath flow until it won't flow any longer then try drawing in a longer breath. Three breaths is usually enough to completely change your mental and physical state. Relax close your eyes breathe and let your body go heavy slowly working your way from the tips of your toes to all the different parts of your head inside and out. Spend ten minutes like this and wake yourself up, how different do you feel? Imagine if you did this every night before bed letting go of everything that happened that day good or bad. Letting your breath carry away everything preparing you for sleep.
Allow your breath to soothe your emotions next time someone challenges you to a screaming match or picks a fight take a breath and act without reacting. Allow your breath to take away the tension in your shoulders or your headache breathe into your muscles take the breath to the pain and tension and draw it out seeing the pain go with the breath. Allow your breath to give you strength draw in the strength you need and know that you can do what you need to do. Let your breath draw your attention inwards blocking out external distractions, clear your mind to help you receive an answer or make a decision. In a moment you can change your situation and choose how you want to react. That is the power of the breath.

A more useful diagnosis
So you've had alot of tests seen alot of drs and nothing has shed any light on the situation all you have to show is an unexplainable long list of confusing symptoms and the long name of a syndrome that's not understood and basically says that you have a certain amount of a set of symptoms and nothing else. You feel great because you have a thing you now have a diagnosis to say you have a thing but nobody knows what to do about it, there's no cure, no useful pill or treatment plan just the advice to self educate listen to your body and be easy on yourself. Not easy to deal with!! Where does this leave you, googling for hours? buying dozens of books that support products or pills or other things that will cost you money that probably are being sold by the author. What if there was a better answer one that made your situation more understandable that gave you ways to care for yourself and find sanity?
A diagnosis that your dr would be unlikely to give would be HSP or Highly Sensitive Person. However this is not a psychological all in your head emotional wreck term. It's a term that describes people who are more open and receptive to stimuli than others. Basically it means you are more aware and experience your senses more acutely. So heightened hearing sensitivity to light or smells it also includes awareness and increased emotional stimulation. It means bombardment of your nervous system by tons of information that's overwhelming and stressing on your body. Means your more likely to have reactions to chemicals, drugs and allergies to foods and cleaning products. You could have sleep difficulty, headaches, digestion issues, pain, anxiety, depression, agoraphobia, symptoms produced in particularly cold or hot weather or other things that seem random. But it means that life is more difficult stressful and overwhelming for you because of the way your body processes information. Understanding what this means for you can make life easier because you can learn to use this is a skill set a gift instead of a curse and it can be better controlled when you know what it is.
In other circles it's also referred to as empathy or maybe it's just similar. But that is also a condition of extreme sensitivity where you experience peoples thoughts, emotions and sometimes physical condition as your own. It is NOT feeling sorry for your neighbour because her cat died and you had a cat that died so you know what it's like. It would be grieving over your loss and experiencing that loss and depression not knowing why you felt that way. Empathy and HSP both manifest in the same way. Walking into a busy shopping centre becoming stressed and overwhelmed in the crowd and bustle leaving feeling drained, depressed and completely exhausted. Empathy can manifest as illness as headaches or digestion issues and be very draining and stressful for a person who does not understand what is happening. Both need to be learned about and understood so a person can learn to use them as skill sets rather then have these sensitivities use them. They are diagnosis's that are helpful and give a person a course of action aswell as understanding what is causing a mass of confusing unrelated symptoms.

The fuss about yoga
So you hear constantly that yoga is great for you and everyone seems to recommend it and maybe you know people who have taken it up and turned their lives around. But no one has told you why it works or what it does. Is yoga more than stretching and a bit of relaxation? Definately but how does it work. Yoga in its full eastern form involves a few of integral components that are often left out of westernized and gym taught yoga. These are Postures, pranayama, mudras, mantras, bandhas and kriyas and together bring balance and health to the physical body, mental body, emotional body and spiritual body.
Postures- yoga uses poses and moves through sets of postures to build strength and exercise the body. They massage internal organs and glands and help the body balance, build muscle, gain flexibility and eliminate toxins. The added benefits are that the exercise is not painful and won't exhaust you but infact is usually relaxing or restorative. The muscles don't produce lactic acid and are oxygenated during the practice and one builds strength and flexibility at the same time. For people who don't exercise because of pain yoga is gentle but can be made more difficult by adjusting the postures often using props to make it easier. Yoga postures open up the energy pathways to remove blockages and pain in a similar way to accupuncture and accupressure. Inversions are postures where the body gets tipped upside down which aids circulation, oxygen flow and rapidly and effectively detoxs. While twists work often unused muscles and massage organs aiding digestion function. The practice of the postures teaches one muscle recognition and awareness of tension so that one can relax tight muscles outside their practice off their mat in the day to day life illiminating many sources of pain and fatigue.
Pranayama- This translates to energy control which means bringing in life force through the breath. This is a conscious breathing practice that is incredibly powerful sometimes practiced as part of a kriya or posture. Different types of breathing encourage heightening of energy, relaxation, a flush of oxygen to the blood, enhances cellular processes and regeneration, improves and changes mood, increases awareness and focus and balances the sides of the brain and its functioning. This also aids in detoxification and assisting the body in all its functions. The breath practice teaches the body to breath deeper so that you will start to bring in more oxygen without even thinking about it off the mat.
Mudras- These are seals and are used to aid and improve energy flow around the body to improve vitality. Remember the wise old baboon from the lion king? Hing sitting cross legged with his hands resting on his knees this is an example of a meditation with his hands in gyana mudra and is used to alter the breath to abdominal breathing.
Mantras- These are sounds that are chanted to bring about transformation. The sounds contain meaning and are chanted and repeated in meditation to bring about beneficial changes. Om the most well known mantra represents union of mind, body and spirit.
Bandhas- Body locks contain and restrict the flow of energy controlling how the energy is directed and used. It can stop energy from being lost and helps balance the nervous and endocrine systems. It is also a means to stimulate kundalini energy.
Kriyas- Are sets and practices combining any of the other elements in order to detox and cleanse. The cleanse isn't always physical but can be emotional and mental aswell. The practice is extremely good for balancing the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system and restoring harmony in ones life. It can release emotions and pain and bring a huge and quick change in a persons life especially if practiced regularly.
So yoga assists in a healthy body and develops fantastic focus and improved brain function while releasing and working through emotions and traumas. It's a meditative discipline that develops and purifies all aspects of a person while bringing in vitality, developing and balancing the chakras in turn strengthening the aura and ones spiritual body. Yoga really does improve all aspects of life if taken seriously in a devoted way.

Energy loss
Feeling so incredibly exhausted lately and completely spent at times unable to keep myself awake, sleeping for extended periods or broken sleep at odd hours it seems incredibly important to discuss why this happens and the ways we lose energy. I'm not talking about being tired after a day of work or being completely exhausted after manual labour or a big stressful task. I'm talking about barely being able to function as a human being. Being too tired to eat or even sit up. Standing up and knowing that you need to lay back down immediately. Falling asleep after half an hour of tv you were watching while eating breakfast.
There are many reasons we lose energy mainly because we give it away. Perhaps we don't look after ourselves. The physical reasons maybe be not eating well. If we don't supply our bodies with proper nutrients it struggles to function well and our body will use energy digesting food that gives us little or only a short burst of energy. Or eating foods full of artificial colours, flavours, chemicals and hormones loading our bodies with substances it has to stress itself to break down often poisoning our system. Or perhaps we eat overcooked food that's lost its nutritional content.
Avoiding the sun can be harmful it can disrupt our sleep wake cycles and deplete our body of vitamin D. Simply opening our blinds and seeing the morning light and spending 15 minutes in the sun every few days is often enough to raise our spirits and boost our energy.
Not connecting to the earth can cause inflammation, pain and excess body electricity. Walking barefoot on the earth counteracts this passing the electrical currents in our body down through the earth like lightning and the circuitry in our houses and buildings. Not moving around enough stopping your body from getting adequate oxygen and blood flow.
Not getting enough water leaving us dehydrated or getting bad quality water. Most of us don't get thirsty enough so don't drink the amount of water we need. Water from the tap is full of impurities, does not taste that good and is not properly bio-available. Spring water and mineral water taste alot sweeter and contain more calcium, magnesium and often much larger quantities of vital nutrients than tap water. Also crystals can be used to return the molecular structure of the water back to a more original form and destroys toxic substances and chemicals the water obtains from pipes. Many people will put crystals in a glass and sit the glass in a jug of water outside in the sun for a few hours to allow the crystals to transfer energy into the water molecules and change the structure and quality of the water. This has been scientifically proven. It's not reccomended that the crystals go directly into the drinking water as some are dissolvable and can contain harmful substances. People also make gem elixirs to use in a similar way.
Some people can be sensitive to the earths electromagnetic field and different parts of the planet are stronger or weaker and can effect health and energy levels. People can also respond to electrical pollution and sleeping in rooms with technology such as mobile phones, computers and other devices.
But you probably know most of those some things that you might not know is that you give energy to people. If you have any depressed friends or friends that always seem to need help your feeding them your energy by feeling sorry for them and sympathizing. People often will create drama and fights because they can get your energy this way even if they don't realise what they are doing. It's called vampirism and there's no blood involved but some people do know what they are doing and take great pride in it and become extremely skilled at draining people.
There's spiritual reasons people can have a lack of energy people can be more open and thus pick up other peoples energy, issues, poor health. A person who is more open might lucid dream giving them unrestful sleep or astral travel leaving their body often without realizing or remembering and their body using up energy transporting them and trying to integrate back in afterwards this can also be noticed from sleep paralysis waking up not being able to move or the feeling of falling before waking. Entities being any energy form can feed off our energies some knowingly some not. Chakra imbalances can drain us when our energy isn't able to flow properly and stagnates. Or awakenings which can be spontaneous or brought on by engaging in magical practices, yoga, meditation or psychic work. Awakenings can be intense periods of extreme change, rapid assimilation of energy and realizing but also sorting through behavior patterns and bringing up memories, emotions and traumas to work through and can really wreak havoc on the body like an insanely strong drug detox.
The best way to deal with psychic or spiritual type drains is to learn about the energy bodies and aura. Learn to feel and move your energy and to contain it and shield yourself. When you learn to feel and notice your energy you can diagnose the blockages and leaks and realise where your energy is going who's taking it who you're donating it to and what things you expend energy on that aren't beneficial. There is more than enough energy for everyone so we should be more conscious of where we get ours from and where it goes.

Why it hurts
Chronic pain patients hear time and time again that their body has malfunctioned often than not they had an injury or illness and their body repaired and healed but the pain remained. Or they have unexplainable pain that's persisted for months or years and does not seem to want to go or goes for a short while then comes back.
To understand this we have to understand what pain is. Pain is a response from your body telling you that something is wrong. The pain is not necessarily where the problem is and you can hurt for non physical reasons. Do I believe that the body can malfunction in a way to produce pain for no reason? No. I believe the body does whatever it needs to in order to communicate something with you. You can take a headache pill and maybe the headache goes and you don't need another but then it comes back maybe in a different way or different place maybe it's a slightly different symptom. But it does come back unless you address it. Sometimes it's not enough to see a dr to have bloods or scans done sometimes the body won't tell you why your hurting just that your doing something wrong and that you need to stop and pay attention.
The body can manifest emotions as pain, a job that's not serving you, relationships that are not beneficial, denying the you in you and basically not living your lifes path. Pain is your friend it helps you know when your in danger, when you need to change your course. So take time reflect think of your lifes direction what were you doing thinking or feeling when the pain started. Or what weren't you doing that you should of been. Maybe you put off time to yourself and have been running around looking after others neglecting yourself. Or maybe you've decided that your not jealous or affected by other people that you don't have problems and that other people are the problem. Take a moment and think about what your doing, are you causing your pain? Is there something you can do that would be good for you that might get to the root of the problem because if you don't solve the puzzle your body will keep serving you by making you hurt. I'm not saying it's your fault maybe it's not something that you did maybe it's just something you need to do. Something that will pull your life in the right direction. Maybe you are doing a good job working for good people but it's not what your passionate about and it's not what your meant to do. Maybe your job brings in the money but leaves you feeling empty.
Diagnosing the chakras and their imbalances can really help you nut out what the issues you are facing are and where imbalances are whether they be physical, emotional or spiritual. Meditate and get to know yourself so you will be able to listen to what you already know and realise your own wisdom. A shaman can help heal you in more ways than medical they can retrieve parts of your soul that have left you through shock or extreme pain and trauma and help you become more whole and complete. They can also help you receive wisdom and understand what's going wrong in your life. They can help you begin to change what needs changing and give you the strength you need to heal more fully and not just medicate and ignore what your body needs you to know. Even if you don't want to see someone you can learn to do some of these things for yourself. Don't be afraid to ask for help and know that there is always someone to help when you need it. Sometimes it may not be a physical person. Maybe it's an animal or a spirit guardian or teacher. Sometimes the help will come in a way you don't like. healing can often bring up alot of pain and difficulty sometimes your teachers might seem cold or cruel but they are there to help and a lesson can be learned from everyone.
If you look at pain as being unexplainable or there because of a malfunction you might never be without it. Shamanism looks at illness and pain as the effect of an unhealthy energy body, which can be caused by spirits, negetivity, not taking care of your body, not being true to yourself, not living your lifes goal and picking up on messages from spirits and the earth trying to communicate. Some people can be sensitive to the earths changing electromagnetism or the electrical output of common technology around the home.
So if you want to be well and happy dig deep uncover and unbottle your repressions speak your truth and communicate deeply with people. Do what makes you happy and don't live in avoidance if something does not serve you find a way to change it or eliminate it. Ask and you will receive.
