What actually is it?
An over activation of the sympathetic nervous system.
What on earth does that mean?
It means your locked in fight or flight mode and your nervous system is so busy running the stress response and trying to keep you alive that it puts important functions like digestion, blood sugar regulation and any rest or restorative functions on the back burner. It means the brain is constantly firing off and can't reach a deep sleep state and stay in it for very long, muscles are tensed up forming tight extremely sensitive knots called trigger points and the organ function becomes slow and sluggish. Toxins build up the immune system stops functioning correctly and many flu like symptoms develop. Chronic fatigue, aches and stiffness all over, poor memory, confusion, stress, over production of cortisol, reduced ability to digest, sinus blockages and pain, migraines, dizziness, nausea, muscle cramping, sensations of burning stabbing pinching biting pricking crawling aching throbbing all over body, reduced pain threshold, non painful stimuli becoming unbearable such as flashing lights high pitched sounds or a strong hug and many other symptoms.
Worst thing about the pain
It's not static it does not stay on the same level while ever there is pain it will keep getting worse. The only way to make the pain bearable is to find ways to be pain free for short amounts of time so that it does not get out of control and destroy you mentally emotionally and physically. The pain will stop you from sleeping and the electrical signals in the trigger points will fire and interfere with sleeping brain waves if you do manage to sleep stopping you from getting restful sleep. The trigger points multiply over time and hurt where the point is but also produce surrounding tenderness and sharp referred pain. A trigger point in the shoulder can be the cause of an intense migraine, a trigger point in the back can produce pain and tightness in the chest. It's all so complicated. A trained massage therapist can treat the trigger points but that's incredibly painful and they are equally likely to activate them as they are to deactivate them. But some people respond well to trigger point treatment. It's important to note that trigger points push on nerves and organs so can cause a great deal of other symptoms in any location of the body so if you can find a way to deactivate them and stretch the muscle returning it to its proper length and function you can greatly reduce symptoms and improve sleep.
What causes it?
Drs seem to think it has a variety of causes sudden shock or stress, viral or bacterial illness, immune dysfunction, busy life style over exhaustion, adrenal fatigue, hormone imbalance, whiplash injuries and the list goes on knowing that does not really help though its hard to prove what caused it and alot of the suspected causes can be symptoms so how does one know if it was the chicken or the egg. A symptom or a cause. Tests are being developed now to find blood markers for the condition yes that can prove you likely do have it but does it help you get rid of it no.
I'd like to present to you my own theory of what causes it in some possibly all cases but here's some food for thought. An unnatural stress response to a bodies increased awareness of an energetic world. Everyone keeps saying its happening now's the time there's a big new age movement more people becoming interested in spirituality, energetic healing and psychic topics. More people are having non ordinary experiences with spirits and increased awareness. I think fibromyalgia could be the bodies stress response when faced with stimuli the ego does not want to accept. Encountering entities, seeing things that other people can't or hearing things or simply knowing or feeling can be extremely confusing and scary when everyone tells you it's not real and all in your head. Many people are now coming to accept that there is alot out there and we don't understand much of it and it can't all be explained away by logic and reason.
If that's true how would one treat it?
Accepting the bodies and energy system one would get energy healing. See light healers, shamans, reiki practitioners or others who understand the energy body and the chakras. Yoga is a great first step to build up energy get it flowing again and give the muscles a nice stretch and massage internal organs. Listening to what your body is telling you. Take notice of everything when you get a symptom what does it coincide with? What synchronicities are there? Meditate allow yourself to feel and express it. Emotions can become blocked and stored as pain or carried as an exhausting heavy burden. See whats there and release it, let go all thoughts, behaviours and anything else that does not serve you. Maybe you are sick because your body is trying to tell you something. Maybe your attracting negative energy or not taking care of yourself. Maybe your trying to live your life outside of your lifes purpose or maybe spirits are feeding off your energy.
After I accepted it wasn't my imagination the fibromyalgia became a learning tool. Pointing me where to go and what to do. My heightened senses a way to reconnect back to the earth to receive healing. Go outside barefoot stand on the grass, soil or sand. Ground yourself accept the gifts of energy the earth has for you. Ask nature or god or the universe whatever you believe in for healing and believe you are better. Listen to what nature is trying to teach you. No matter how exhausted and incapable you feel there is more than enough energy out there just waiting.
Eat natural foods as fuel stop eating so many sugars, caffeine and processed foods. Give your body a chance to detox and clear out the garbage. Clear out the garbage yourself. Hot epsom salt baths, steams, fresh fruit juices, acupressure and massage, dry skin brushing all help. Start taking care of yourself today listen to your body instead of blocking it out with pills and feel better.
